Wisconsin Milkweed Alliance, Inc. (WIMA) is a peer-led, community-driven organization rooted in the belief that healing happens through connection, dignity, and lived experience. We create spaces where individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use, trauma, and life instability are welcomed exactly as they are—without judgment, without barriers, and without expectation.
At WIMA, we don’t ask people to fit into systems. We build systems that meet people where they are.
Our work is grounded in peer support values—mutuality, autonomy, and shared humanity—and is brought to life through a network of innovative, life-saving programs that reach individuals often left behind by traditional services.
Monarch House Peer-Run Respite offers a voluntary, short-term residential stay for individuals experiencing emotional distress or crisis. As a fully peer-operated space, Monarch House provides an alternative to more clinical settings—one rooted in compassion, choice, and understanding. Guests are supported by individuals with lived experience who walk alongside them, creating a space where people can rest, reset, and reconnect with themselves.
The Kaleidoscope Peer Recovery Center serves as a vibrant, welcoming drop-in space open seven days a week. It is a place for connection, recovery, and community—where individuals can find support, build relationships, and access resources without barriers. Whether someone is seeking conversation, stability, or simply a safe place to be, Kaleidoscope meets that need with open doors and open hearts.
The WIMA Warmline extends that connection beyond physical spaces. Staffed by trained peers, the Warmline provides compassionate, real-time support to individuals who need someone to talk to—whether they are in crisis or simply feeling alone. Every call is an opportunity to remind someone that they matter and that they are not alone.
Mobile Outreach Peer Support (MOPS) takes this work directly into the community. Through a flexible, call-in dispatch model, peer supporters meet individuals where they are—literally. Whether connecting in homes, public spaces, or partner locations, MOPS ensures that support is not limited by transportation, stigma, or access barriers. This approach has dramatically expanded WIMA’s reach, allowing for individualized, responsive care across the county.
WIMA is also a leader in harm reduction initiatives, recognizing that saving lives and building trust must come before anything else. Through community distribution, outreach efforts, and a publicly accessible harm reduction vending machine, WIMA provides life-saving tools such as naloxone, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, and other essential supplies. These efforts reduce overdose deaths, prevent disease transmission, and create meaningful entry points into support and recovery.
None of this work happens in isolation. WIMA collaborates deeply with local partners—including public health, law enforcement, hospitals, treatment courts, and grassroots organizations—to ensure a coordinated, compassionate response to community need. Yet, at our core, we remain fiercely committed to maintaining our peer-led identity and values.
Every day, WIMA reaches individuals who might otherwise fall through the cracks—people who are often unseen, unheard, and underserved. And every day, we see what’s possible when someone is met with respect, understanding, and genuine human connection.
Community support makes this work possible.
As a nonprofit organization, WIMA relies on donations to sustain and grow these essential services. Your support helps keep our doors open, our phones answered, and our outreach active. It ensures that someone in crisis has a place to go, someone to talk to, and a community that cares.
When you give to WIMA, you are not just funding programs—you are investing in people, in dignity, and in the belief that everyone deserves support on their own terms.
Together, we are building a community where no one has to navigate life’s hardest moments alone.
